Grand Terre
My first night was a homestay by very friendly locals, which picked me up on the airport. They offered me a short roundtrip through Noumea with me at night by car.

Noumea looks like a town in Europe, the only different is, that the main road is directly on the bay of the ocean.
There you can see often big cruiser, which start here to go to the “Loyauté Islands” such as to Lifou.

Noumea is quiet expensive, so you pay for a normal small sandwich already 500,- CFP = 4,-€ or for the cheapest accommodation min. 5650,-CFP = 48,-€ (La Rouche Hotel), which is really just a basic standard room with shared bathroom.

The best accommodation is definitely the “Auberge de Jeunesse” Youth Hostel, email: reservation@aubergesdejeunesse.nc http://www.aubergesdejeunesse.nc/en/hostel.htm up on the hill, for 15,-€ per night a bed in a Dormitory. If you take the directly way, you have to use some steep steps, which going upstairs.
